When Your Teen Is Struggling With Depression, There Are More Options

Watching your teenager struggle with depression can be heartbreaking. When traditional treatments aren't providing enough relief, families may feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn.

At iChange Wellness Center, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to feel better and thrive.

We offer advanced Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS), an FDA-cleared, noninvasive treatment option for adolescents and young adults ages 15–21 experiencing major depressive disorder.

Deep TMS provides a new approach to treating depression by targeting brain circuits involved in mood regulation, without surgery or the systemic effects of antidepressant medications.

What Is TMS for Teens?

BrainsWay TMS

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation treatment that uses magnetic pulses to activate specific regions of the brain involved in mood regulation.

Depression is associated with changes in the activity and communication of brain networks responsible for emotional regulation, motivation, and cognitive functioning.

Deep TMS works by stimulating these networks to help improve depressive symptoms.

Unlike medications, TMS acts directly on targeted brain circuits and does not require anesthesia, sedation, or hospitalization.

In November 2025, the FDA cleared BrainsWay Deep TMS as an adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder in patients ages 15–21.

How Do You Know if Your Teen May Need Additional Treatment?

Depression in adolescents doesn't always look like sadness. Sometimes, it appears as irritability, withdrawal, or changes in behavior.

Common symptoms include:

  • Persistent sadness, irritability, or hopelessness
  • Loss of interest in friends, sports, or favorite activities
  • Difficulty concentrating or declining school performance
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Low motivation, fatigue, or social withdrawal
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
  • Depression that continues despite therapy or medication

If your teenager continues to struggle, a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation can help determine whether Deep TMS may be an appropriate addition to their treatment plan. Call 201-864-4897.
