What to Expect During Spravato® Treatment at Our NJ Office

How It Works.

A serene landscape featuring a lush green field under a clear blue sky, with a few scattered trees.

Which Treatment Is Right for You?

Patients with treatment-resistant depression may find relief through either TMS therapy or Spravato (esketamine) treatment. TMS therapy in Hackensack, NJ, is a non-medication option that utilizes magnetic stimulation to enhance mood. On the other hand, Spravato is a rapid-acting treatment specifically designed for patients who haven't had success with traditional antidepressants. Our team will work with you to identify the most suitable treatment for your needs.

Spravato (Esketamine) Treatment for Depression

Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray specifically designed for adults suffering from treatment-resistant depression, particularly when conventional antidepressants have proven ineffective. Unlike traditional medications, esketamine acts on different brain pathways, offering rapid relief from depressive symptoms, often within just days to weeks. This treatment is administered in a certified medical environment under professional supervision to ensure both safety and effectiveness. At iChange Wellness Center, we provide Spravato treatment in West New York, NJ, as part of our comprehensive and personalized approach to managing depression.

FDA Indications for Spravato

Esketamine, marketed under the brand name SPRAVATO®, has two FDA-approved indications. According to the package insert for SPRAVATO®, esketamine is indicated, along with an oral antidepressant, for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) in adults and for managing depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) experiencing acute suicidal ideation (SI) or behavior.

Treatment Protocol

The treatment recommended for treatment-resistant depression with esketamine, commercially known as Spravato, involves sessions twice per week for four weeks, followed by weekly treatments for an additional four weeks. During these treatment sessions, patients are monitored and supervised in the facility for 2 hours and must arrange for a documented safe ride home. It is important to note that patients cannot drive until they have had a full night's rest.

Helpful Tips

1. No liquids 30 minutes before the administration of esketamine (Spravato).

2. No food for 2 hours prior to the administration of Spravato to ensure optimal results in treating treatment-resistant depression.

3. Avoid the use of any nasal decongestant spray or steroid.

4. Patients should refrain from operating machinery or vehicles until they have had a good night's rest; it may be advisable for them to have someone accompany them upon discharge.
